Feliz Año!

Living in Costa Rica for a year is not just about the gorgeous scenery and abundance of plants and animals.    It’s also about the culture and spending time with family.  Now that our kids are officially ticos and have dual citizenship – it’s especially important for them to get to know their family here!

While the kids and I made a late December trip to Tortuguero, two cousins started planning a New Year’s Eve party.  And what better place to have it than at our house!?  We were happy to agree to host!

That night we had so much fun with friends and family welcoming 2017!

Almost better than the party was hanging out the next morning.

Maybe cigars and scotch at 1 am was not the best idea.

Family who stayed the night hung around for breakfast and then played for hours in the pool with Phineas.

Double attack!

Later that  morning we  took a couple of 4WD vehicles into the mountains across the valley.

We drove up, up, up through coffee farms, over little mountain streams and past soccer fields guarded by rainbow lions.

We stopped on a high ridge and everyone got out to admire the view and look at the ocean view on the horizon. . .

It was the perfect way to start 2017!  What did you do on the first day of this new year?

What a joy to have these photos and commentary. It makes my day! Lovely to see you making the most of your opportunity, living in Costa Rica. Having family there makes it all so much more special. Phineas is the picture of health!
(I don’t know how you are going to be able to adjust to life back in the States!)

I am so glad that you are able to do this. What a terrific experience for everyone. Getting out, into a new place, a shared adventure, involving lots of family. What could be better. Thanks so much for sharing all this with us. Lots of love to you all, Tina
